Case Study Summary

Founded in 1947 in Innsbruck, Austria, Lichthaus Haid has evolved from its beginnings as a neon glass-blowing business to become the successful full-service advertising systems and installation specialist that today serves a global customer base.

Still a family-run business more than 75 years later, the company expanded its reach and product portfolio with an additional production site in Reghin, Romania in the early 2000s. Since then, the business has developed from neon to LED technology and into the digital printing sector – becoming a full-range supplier of printed and display advertising.

“We currently have 30 employees based in Innsbruck and a further 70 working at our Romanian production site,” said Lichthaus Haid CEO Veronika Kärle-Haid. “The combination of our craftsmanship and decades of know-how with precision machines in metal and plastic processing is what really sets us apart and has given us our decades of success.

“With an international customer base that includes small individual businesses across a range of trade, commerce and tourism, through to large chain stores and food retailers, we are established in the market as a full-service provider for advertising systems, including installation work. Our production capabilities are designed for both large-scale projects as well as one-off productions.

In order to drive our continued growth, we wanted to digitalize our production processes – and with WebCenter, we were able to extend this to the overall project management.

Ensuring Accurate Information for All

“One of the issues we had identified in production was the accessibility of information, especially the challenge in making sure everyone involved in the project had access to the same, up-to-date information at every stage of the process,” added Veronika. “We knew we still had too much stored in paper form, and this was something we wanted to address.”

WebCenter is Esko’s web-based application platform which enables companies of all sizes to manage, collaborate and digitize their processes and meet their challenges head on. The powerful, secure platform manages internal processes end-to-end, to help deliver right first-time print, with advantageous reporting, metrics and process optimization.

“The Esko technicians delivered a comprehensive coordination phase during implementation, so that they could get to know the processes and we could understand the product,” said Veronika. “Individual solutions had to be found for us and we are still testing and discovering new potential with all the possibilities.

We have now integrated every department, from sales to production to shipping and assembly, and are very satisfied with the process.

Flexibility to Deliver the Personal Touch

Veronika said that flexibility and individualization of service were crucial to the success of Lichthaus Haid. “Every advertising system is a one-off, even in serial production,” she explained. “That’s why it’s important that projects and orders must be individually plannable and processable – something which is in complete contrast to the packaging industry, which has high quantities and little individual production.

“Due to the adaptability of Esko WebCenter, we were able to adopt our workflow to a high degree and rethink and partially restructure it during the implementation process, to meet all our – and our customers’ – needs. ,” she said. “Now, everyone is accessing the same level of information, work processes have been accelerated, and we have all information in one central hub for all participants, regardless of where they are working.”
