Ghent (Belgium), June 2014 – Esko (www.esko.com) is preparing for an impressive presence at ExpoPrint 2014, in Stand 62-B, from July 16-22 at the Transamérica Expo Center, offering a number of hardware and software solutions to create high quality packaging quickly and easily. Highlights are a CDI Spark 4835 digital flexo plate imager, the new Kongsberg V cutting table, and the updated Esko Suite of packaging production software. Esko will also offer four product presentations on their stand, each day. Occurring every four years, ExpoPrint Latin America is the largest event for graphic arts in Latin America, focusing on pre-press, printing, packaging and finishing. The last edition of ExpoPrint Latin America attracted more than 35,000 people.
“Many converters and printers in Latin America have been investing in new technologies to create more cost-effective and impactful packaging,” observes Ernande Ramos, Vice President, Latin America. “Latin America is a very strong area of growth as companies have become very competitive in the design and creation of packaging. Esko hopes that we can continue to help these companies with our latest solutions.”
Flexo plate imaging takes a giant step forward
Esko CDI digital flexo plate imagers are available for every need: from narrow web label printing, to flexible packaging and wide format corrugated printing; from one color printed corrugated boxes to highly sophisticated multi-color packaging and even security printing. At ExpoPrint, the CDI Spark 4835, the most popular flexo plate imager in the industry, will be on display, imaging digital flexo plates up to 1200 x 900 mm. This digital flexo imaging device helps small and medium volume label and folding carton flexo plate makers and converters.
Visitors can also learn about HD Flexo and Full HD Flexo, creating flexo plates that deliver exceptional print with impactful solids and smooth highlights. With this technology, many printers have moved jobs from offset and gravure presses to flexo. Full HD Flexo also eliminates manual steps traditionally associated with flexo platemaking, main exposures, and prints more consistently than standard digital flexo plates. HD Flexo and Full HD Flexo can be implemented as an upgrade to most existing CDI imagers.
Esko features new Kongsberg V digital cutting table
Esko recently introduced the Kongsberg V series cutting tables. Built on the robustness of the Esko Kongsberg family, the new V series offers standard configurations for the best possible finishing quality of the highly diverse range of packaging and signs & displays. Kongsberg V is available in two sizes; V20 and V24, and is able to work on materials of 1700x1300 mm (V20) and 1700x3200 (V24).
At ExpoPrint, Esko will demonstrate the Kongsberg V20 for Sign & Display, which comes with a MultiCUT tool head for vision controlled cutting and routing. The MultiCUT combines all tool insert options with an air-cooled milling spindle up to 45.000 RPM, perfect for a wide range of sign & display materials including acrylics and other synthetics. The camera system and innovative front-end software make it the perfect solution for production of lower volumes of signs and displays. Esko will also demonstrate the capability of the table to produce packaging mock-ups.
“Esko began testing the market with this new family of cutting tables last year,” says Ramos. “The Kongsberg V fulfills an important need for a high-end digital finishing solution at an attractive entry-level price. The Kongsberg V series features the same rock-solid construction found in all Kongsberg tables, which makes them last for many production years. They are perfect for customers who want the productivity, reliability and precision that is characteristic of Esko Kongsberg machines, but only need it for specific applications.”
Esko Software Suite:
the most integrated software suite for packaging, labels and displays
At ExpoPrint, Esko will showcase the latest version of its production software. While the complete, wide range of design, prepress and workflow applications will be on display, Esko will focus on a few primary solutions:
Studio turns ideas into beautiful 3D images for creative development. There is no more need to produce physical mock-ups all the time. Users have an accurate and technically correct package on the screen. While conventional mock-ups may be required, with Studio virtual mock-ups are faster and less expensive for initial design reviews.
ArtiosCAD is the world’s most popular structural design software for packaging design. With dedicated tools specifically designed for packaging professionals for structural design, product development, virtual prototyping and manufacturing, ArtiosCAD increases productivity throughout a company. ArtiosCAD is the ideal product for all corrugated, folding carton and POP/display designers.
Automation Engine is a modular workflow server with dynamic workflows that are easy to set up and operate. It ensures increased efficiency and throughput and saves time and money. It is, by all standards, an exceptional answer to the daily challenges of print professionals who need to increase quality, reduce errors and drive cost out of the process.
Equinox, Esko´s solution for extended gamut printing, standardizes printing presses on any set of 5, 6, 7 or more inks. Users save on inks (and plates) for packaging work and printers save time as the press workload between jobs is reduced to merely changing printing plates.
Optimize packaging and pallet layouts with Cape Pack
Cape Pack is a modular suite of palletization software to help determine the best product size, case count, case size and pallet load. Companies around the world use Esko’s Cape Pack palletization software to reduce their ecological footprint, improve space utilization, and cut transportation costs.
Complete presentation schedule during ExpoPrint
Every day during ExpoPrint from 15:00 to 18:00, Esko will offer 20-minute presentations every hour about different Esko solutions. Topics will cover a wide range of applications, such as flexo solutions to flexibles, the advantages of online review and approval of packaging projects with WebCenter, how to print special colors without special inks with Equinox, and four steps to ensure high quality printing labels and tags (including use of Full HD Flexo).
Esko partners at ExpoPrint
Joining Esko on the stand will be Enfocus, an Esko company, which will be featuring Connect 12 and PitStop Pro 12, solutions for designers and print providers. Enfocus Connect helps creative and production professionals generate top-quality PDFs from any application and easily deliver completed jobs to outside service providers. PitStop 12 is the most comprehensive PDF checking, correction and editing tool available on the market. Its newest features include user definable keyboard shortcuts, improved selection and editing of objects, regular expressions, color curve adjustment and new and improved Actions and Action Lists.
Esko sister company, X-Rite PANTONE®, will also be on the stand. They will be exhibiting eXact™, a spectrophotometer to read color bars and enabling printers and packaging converters to truly understand, control, manage and communicate color across the entire color network; i1Pro 2 with IO, the de facto industry standard spectrophotometer for small printers for more than a decade for small printers, with the optional i1iO automated hands-free chart reader; and Ink Formulation 6 software, providing fast, accurate and consistent ink formulation, formula creation, storage, approval and retrieval solution for offset, flexographic, gravure and screen-printing inks.
On Esko's stand, DuPont Packaging Graphics will be presenting its newest offering, Cyrel® FAST DFUV thermal flexographic printing plates, specially designed for use with UV inks. The plates come to color quickly and print smooth and dense solids, without compromising dot gain, highlights and resolution. This is a special year for DuPont Packaging Graphics, as the Cyrel® brand is celebrating 40 years of innovation in the flexographic printing industry. One of its many important and innovative highlights was the development in 1995 of the first DuPont™ Cyrel® Digital Imager (CDI), produced in partnership with Esko.
Alphaprint, one of Esko’s major resellers in Brazil, will also be attending ExpoPrint in their own area, Stand 26-B, displaying a Kongsberg V24 for Sign & Display.
“Esko looks forward to meeting all members of the Latin American print and packaging supply chain during ExpoPrint,” concludes Ramos. “They do extraordinary work, and we hope to continue to help them excel in the international marketplace.”
