Gent (Belgium), June 2013 – Esko (www.esko.com) is to run its second 'Get More Out Of Flexo' technical training day to help Russian companies exploit the commercial benefits of flexographic production. The company’s experts will cover a wide range of themes, including how to produce short-run work more cost effectively, how to reduce costs and waste, and how to give brands’ products a striking shelf impact.
Esko held its first training day in Istanbul in December, which proved a major success. The company is now keen to share the benefits of flexo with the Russian market. The event runs in collaboration with specialist suppliers, Apex, and leading industry partners DuPont, Lohmann and Siegwerk. It will be staged at Melior Greenwood Hotel, Moscow, on June 18th – the opening day of RosUpack.
Practical tips on improving performance
Esko and its partners will run presentations on how the latest flexo technologies can be used to more cost effectively meet today’s fast-evolving production requirements and deliver greater commercial advantage. 'Get More Out Of Flexo' comprises four one-hour practical presentations, each finishing with a Q&A session:
- Consistency – how to reduce the variables and ensure consistently impressive flexo results, with an emphasis on improving how to manage the potential combinations of plate / tape / anilox / ink
- Density: Don’t Max, Optimize – focuses on the strategies and technologies for improving ink transfer and finding the optimum density to match color
- Productivity: Team Work for Success – discusses how to synchronize equipment and communication between suppliers to improve productivity
- Best Practice – covers how to do flexo the right way by emphasizing process control for staff and equipment, and highlights the best approach for testing new technologies and standardization
The speakers are Kris Sentek, Apex’s Area Sales Manager; Dan Pulling, Esko’s Business Development Manager Digital Flexo & Color; Florian von Heesen, Lohmann’s Head of Application Engineering Market Management Graphics; Jan Scharfenberg, DuPont’s Technical Manager Packaging Graphics EMEA; and Dr. Stéphane Bertaux, Siegwerk’s Head of Technology Siegwerk Russia Business Unit Flexible Packaging.
Giving the Russian market a competitive edge
Mr. Andrey Bataev, General Manager Russian Federation at Esko comments: “Historically, the Russian market is heavily segmented without common standards. This means many companies often stick with the more traditional production processes. Like the rest of the world, however, Russian operators are under increasing pressure – they’re seeing growing demand for short-run work and just-in-time delivery, while at the same time consumers’ and brands’ expectations in terms of quality are increasing".
“To remain a competitive supplier and meet these changing demands, many Russian operators will need to improve their production methods. The Esko training day is all about helping them achieve this. We’ll explain to attendees how they can streamline their existing set-ups and improve quality, and highlight how new developments in flexo technology can further enhance their day-to-day operations. And, of course, we’ll also be answering questions from participants and tackling the specific challenges they’re facing.”
Bataev notes that there are more than 1,500 label printers in Russia, 200 of which are in Moscow: “Competition is fierce. Our training day is designed to help Russian companies make huge improvements to their workflow and production processes, which in turn can help them realize significant savings and increase profit.”
The full impact of HD Flexo
Belarus company, Uniflex, is reaping the rewards of making the transition to Flexo. The 500-employee packaging and self-adhesive label specialist serves Russia, Kazakhstan and the Ukraine, and will hold a presentation on the impact HD Flexo has had on the company – and what it expects ahead of the move to Full HD Flexo. Since making the switch to HD Flexo, Uniflex has seen a 30% increase in orders and a 25% reduction in ink consumption. Plus plate waste has dropped to 6%.
Evgeny Lungin, head of prepress at Uniflex, comments: “With shorter press runs making gravure an expensive option, many operations are choosing flexo as a cost-effective alternative to deliver the quality they need. Esko’s flexo solution has helped us broaden our portfolio, extend our business reach, and foster stronger relationships with brand owners.”
