3D PDF files - Troubleshooting

Problem: When opening the 3D PDF file, I don't see any 3D content.
Please make sure that you're viewing it with one of the following applications or plug-ins:

  • Adobe Reader 8.0.1 or higher
  • Adobe Acrobat Professional 8.0.1 or higher
  • The browser plug-in that is installed

Other applications (such as Esko ArtPro, Esko PackEdge, Esko Neo or the Preview application that comes with MacOS X) cannot show 3D content in PDF files.

Problem: The compatibility test above revealed that Adobe reader is using software rendering. How do I enable hardware rendering?
Solution: Go to the 3D section of the Adobe Reader Preferences. Select either "OpenGL" or "DirectX" as preferred renderer. Toggle on "Enable hardware rendering for legacy video cards".

Problem: Parts of my design disappear when I spin the object around.
Solution: Go to the 3D section of the Adobe Reader Preferences. As "Optimization scheme for low framerate" select "None".

Problem: When turning around the 3D object, the object gets tilted. By dragging the mouse I can't seem to get it 'upright' again.

  • Solution 1: You can always click the home icon "Default View" in the "3D View"
  • Solution 2: If you use the "Spin" tool. The object will rotate in such a fashion that it remains upright. (Behavior is similar to Studio)

Problem: Parts of my design turn pink or red.
Solution: Go to the 3D section of the Adobe Reader Preferences. Toggle off "Enable 3D selection for the Hand tool"
