The customer

A solution driven corrugated manufacturing company

As a third-generation business founded in 1935, Abbott-Action is the most comprehensive supplier of corrugated containers, wood shipping crates, protective packaging and display solutions in the northeast United States today.

We have always been happy with the performance of the Kongsberg tables we have operated in the past. We know they are proven, and our plan of installing two Kongsberg C64 tables offers us added capacity and new opportunities for growth.

The challenge

Increasing change-over rates

Due to smaller order quantities with more order cycles the change-over rate increases drastically.

Abbott-Action understood the need for automation and integration from start to finish.

The solution

An automated digital manufacturing workshop

The company bought two Esko Kongsberg C64 finishing tables, the largest cutting tables available for handling corrugated materials.

The machines are equipped with the iBF feeder and iMS material stacking system, which automate the finishing workflow. Both robotic systems are part of the Kongsberg Automate solutions.

With this automated production system, customers participate in a ‘seamless, connected experience; from quote request to delivery,’ according to Abbott-Action.

When we have implemented the entire Esko ecosystem, there will be more flexibility in manufacturing. With Esko, our major drivers are speed to market and creativity.

The benefits

Taking waste and idle time out of the production process

A fully digital workflow combined with a Kongsberg table eliminates the cost and waiting time for a cutting die.

Driven by speed-to-market and creativity, the corrugated ecosystem provides more flexibility in manufacturing.

The automated solution maximizes output and overall equipment efficiency. Abbott-Action takes waste and idle time out of the production process.
