Integration with die cutters - Esko

Integration with die cutters

Labels & Tags

In most cases, labels are arranged symmetrically.
It saves space and keeps the consumption of materials to a minimum.

However, this configuration is less beneficial for the rotary die-cutting process. The vertical lines tend to cut more forcefully than horizontal lines and high contact pressure causes the vertical lines to cut even deeper. This can damage the liner material; it causes wear and lasting damage to all components in the cutting unit.

Staggered layout

Staggered cut Wink ProShift

German leading supplier of die-cutting tools Wink Stanzwerkzeuge and Esko combined forces, resulting in the ProShift® technology.

The partnership joins Wink's innovative die-cutting technology with Esko’s 'staggered cut' software and Esko Kongsberg cutting tables.

The ProShift® system counteracts the negative effects of conventional flexible dies in a very simple way. The label layout is vertically shifted (staggered) so that the die edge is shaped in steps. This significantly reduces the number of horizontal lines and evenly distributes the cutting pressure which, in its turn, increases tool lifetime.

Distinct benefits

The combined solution offers label converters distinct benefits:

  • optimized label production

  • increased production speeds

  • material savings

  • reduced liner damage

  • highly accurate print and die-cutting results

  • longer lasting flexible dies and machine parts

  • stabile waste stripping

Fully automated plate cutting

Producing printing plates becomes more efficient in the prepress stage when Digital Flexo Suite is used. The Digital Flexo Suite prepares the relevant order data and simultaneously converts it into digital format to create the staggered flexo plate. It guarantees perfect alignment between the printing and cutting plate.

The Staggered Cut option (of The Digital Flexo Suite) is connected to an Esko Kongsberg cutting table, so that plate cutting becomes fully automated. Prepress companies can supply their customers with pre-cut flexographic printing plates ready for mounting, saving time and costs.

The advantages of shifting labels become clear for the printing part as well. Automatic plate cutting involves that print companies benefit from higher quality and more accurate cuts.
